How should routine inspections be prioritized?
The drying drum of the asphalt mixing plant has been tested and inspected prior to shipment; however, during transportation to the job site it will be subjected to bumps and vibrations. Therefore, a comprehensive inspection should be carried out before commissioning: verify that all bolts are securely tightened; ensure that key pins are properly driven in; confirm that the drive mechanism has been adjusted in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions; check that all pipe connections are correct and that pipe joints are secure and reliable; thoroughly lubricate the entire machine; start the electric motor and verify that all components rotate smoothly in the correct direction; ensure that the pressure gauge is functioning properly and that the safety valve is set at the correct pressure; and verify that the burner ignition system is operational and that the valves are fully open.
What is the correct operating procedure?
After the machine is started, it is recommended to initially operate the equipment manually. Once the specified production capacity and discharge temperature have been achieved, the system should then be switched to automatic control. Aggregates should be dried and maintained at as constant a moisture content as possible to ensure a stable temperature as they pass through the drying drum. If the aggregates fed into the drying drum frequently vary in type and each batch exhibits fluctuating moisture levels, the burner settings should be adjusted regularly to compensate for these variations. Aggregates directly from crushing plants generally have a nearly constant moisture content, whereas aggregates sourced from open-air stockpiles tend to have higher moisture levels, with significant variability between different stockpiles. Therefore, it is preferable to source aggregates from a single, consistent supply.
How to perform proper maintenance and repair?
(1) When the equipment is not running, aggregate must not be allowed to remain in the drying drum; at the end of each working day, the equipment should be run to ensure that all aggregate in the drum is completely discharged. Once the aggregate has been fully discharged, the burner should be shut off and the drum allowed to idle for approximately 30 minutes to cool down, thereby minimizing deformation and any adverse effects on the machine’s straight-line operation. (2) The support ring of the drying drum shall rest evenly on the supporting rollers. Bearings must be adjusted when they are worn or misaligned. (3) Regularly check the alignment of the drum. First, loosen the thrust roller and verify the extent to which the drum can move within the length of the slot in the support bracket. Then start the drying drum; if the drum moves back and forth, check whether the supporting rollers have been properly aligned. If the supporting rollers are correctly aligned but the drum gradually shifts toward the feed end, temporarily offset the thrust roller in the opposite direction (so that the drying drum is at the correct operating angle) until proper adjustment is achieved. If the drum gradually shifts toward the discharge end, adjust the thrust roller in the opposite direction. (4) If the roller track contacts only one of the two thrust rollers, shims may be inserted under the supporting roller bearings until all rollers exert uniform pressure across the entire width of the support ring surface. (5) The thrust rollers are designated to maintain the drum’s position, but they must not be used to compensate for misalignment errors. (6) If a chain drive is installed, a small amount of lubricant should be added. Chain tension can be adjusted by using the adjusting screw on the support bracket.
